Athlete of the Month

Learning to swim as an adult is a humbling experience. It takes commitment and a willingness to put in the work. As a natural athlete, it is often even harder because often the expectation is that it will come quickly. Learning to swim well, with correct technique, is a slow process. Tamara came to Rise Up Racing in October, ready to put in the work to learn to swim. Since October she was worked tirelessly, going to the pool multiple times a week. At Rise Up we have a four-drill progression for our beginner swimmer athletes. We first go through all four drills with fins, then we take off the fins and go through the progression again. This is all before we even attempt freestyle. It is a big deal to graduate from fins and/or to move on to freestyle. Well Tamara officially is swimming freestyle. and although we still have things to work on she will begin swimming workouts and building towards PSU 70.3.

Here is what Tamara says:

“Learning how to swim was a major life goal, so I finally decided to take it up in my mid-thirties! I started working with coach Robin in October and learned how to swim freestyle by December – it was a miracle! After having to miss a few weeks of practice because of the flu, she willingly gave me a swim lesson on Christmas Eve morning. I get discouraged from time to time, but she reminds me of all the progress we’ve made and always gives extra grace. I’m very pleased with the results so far and feel motivated to work hard in 2023!”
