Athlete of the Month

When Aurea decided to take on a triathlon she first had to tackle learning how to swim and bike. Coach Robin hooked Aurea up with Charleen who helped her get a bike, learn how to ride it, and cross the finish line of her first ever triathlon! Charleen and Aurea are a great example of what it means to be teammates and we’re so happy to have them be a part of Rise Up Racing!

Here is what Charleen and Aurea says:

Here is what Aurea says: “I first encountered the word “Triathlon” from my local CrossFit last year. The idea of swimming, biking, & running all at once sounded cool to me. The problem is, I don’t know how to swim or bike at all. I told this situation to Coach Robin & she hooked me up with Charleen. When Charleen contacted me, I got very excited because I would finally have someone to teach me from the start. Charleen & I met up in mid-April & the bike lessons started. It was a challenge because I kept falling & looking down but after many attempts, I got the balance down. Now I just needed to work on how to switch gear & my speed. Fast forward a few days later and we rode 7 miles! You have no idea how proud I was when I learned how to ride a bike in such a short period of time. I told myself that my dad (in heaven) will be proud! I would like to give many thanks to Charleen’s help. Without her, I don’t think I could ride a bike & do my first triathlon in August this year. And I would like to thank my wonderful coach, Leslie, who helps me with training and the Rise Up Racing team for being the coolest peeps I’ve met!” Here is what Charleen says: “With a good chunk of the team being in the Williamsport area I was excited to have another team member in York. I’m glad I’ve been able to help Aurea grow as an athlete. Triathlon is an amazing sport that never ceases to amaze me even after 11 years of racing. I’d be happy to help anyone interested in trying a triathlon.”
