athletic training.
As a competitive triathlete and ultra-endurance cyclist, A.J. has completed several full Ironman events and excels in long-distance cycling challenges. He has consistently achieved top finishes, including podium placements and top 10 overall standings in cycling and duathlon events throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. His personal accomplishments provide him with firsthand experience in effective training methodologies, race strategies, and the mental resilience required to excel in high-level competition.
Now coaching for Rise Up Racing, A.J. is dedicated to mentoring cyclists of all levels. His coaching philosophy centers on personalized training plans, data-driven performance analysis, and fostering a supportive community environment. He offers a range of services—from foundational skill development to advanced racing strategies—tailored to help each athlete reach their specific goals.
Coaching Niche
My coaching philosophy is centered on helping cyclists of all skill levels achieve their personal goals in a way that is fun, challenging, and sustainable. Whether my athletes are hopping on their bike for the first time or preparing for their next big race, I focus on building individualized plans tailored to their unique needs and lifestyles. Together, we use a mix of science-backed training methods and personal goal-setting to make steady progress while keeping things exciting and motivating.
As someone who balances family, work, and athletic ambitions, I prioritize training smarter, not harder. By incorporating tools like power meters to track effort, every ride is designed to count—whether the focus is on boosting endurance, sharpening sprinting ability, or improving climbing performance. I also emphasize foundational skills such as efficient pedaling, confident bike handling, and strategic thinking during rides and races. These skills are transformative for cyclists at any level, from beginners to seasoned athletes.
My ultimate goal is to help my athletes grow as cyclists while enjoying the journey. Whether it’s crossing the finish line at their first major event, setting a personal record, or simply feeling stronger and more confident on the bike, I am committed to guiding and supporting them every step of the way.

Coaching Achievements:
“For me, the best part of coaching isn’t just seeing an athlete on the podium, it’s celebrating all the small victories that get them there. Whether it’s crushing a tough workout, hitting a personal best, or gaining confidence on the bike, those everyday wins are what truly matter.
I’ve helped athletes achieve breakthrough performances in cycling, but what excites me most is mentoring new athletes as they tackle their first endurance events. From finishing that first race to unlocking their full potential, I love being part of the journey and seeing athletes grow stronger, more confident, and ready to take on bigger challenges. It’s about progress, not perfection and making every milestone along the way feel like a win.”
